Lion’s Tooth Media exists to tell the stories of the people behind the sustainable food movement via online media and community engagement strategies. We seek to promote, celebrate and bring awareness to sustainable agricultural campaigns, local food producers, farmers, chefs, restaurateurs, non-profit organizations, the game changers in the world of sustainable agriculture. We do advocacy, we build community and we create brand recognition -- whether it’s a gallon of milk or an online farmers market.

melissa waldron, founder

Melissa has a natural inclination for promoting products, ideas and people, and as a producer of television, film, and radio for more than 20 years, she has always believed in mixing media with advocacy.

So it is no surprised that she turned her attention to creating the e-zine, Fertile Ground USA which  serves as a hub of news information, community celebration, activism and innovation that tells the story of the good food movement at the  local level.

As a community organizer, blogger, social media hound and sustainable food advocate with over fifteen years of experience in the non-profit world and local food sector combined, Melissa continues to seek ways to create, develop and grow local food systems that provide educational and entrepreneurial opportunities and ensure food security for all.

Based in New Haven, Connecticut, Melissa is focused on her farming advocacy work and is a founding member of New Haven Farms and Grow New Haven.  In 2011, she graduated from Growing Power's Commercial Urban Ag program and is committed to helping others develop urban agriculture commercial enterprises.

While living in New York City, Melissa was a Contributing Producer for WNYC’s The Leonard Lopate Show, producing a long running regular monthly series with Gourmet magazine’s Editor-in-Chief Ruth Reichl. Talking about the love of ingredients and real food, the series found itself at the crossroads of the recent social, political and cultural changes in our food system. Special guests included environmental journalist Michael Pollan, Slow Food International VP and proprietor of Chez Panisse restaurant Alice Waters, food policy expert Marion Nestle, and Dan Barber, Chef/Founder of Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture, among others. She is the recipient of the 2006 James Beard Foundation/Viking King Range Broadcast Media Award for best Radio Food Show.

Melissa also often writes for Edible Nutmeg, Connecticut’s local food magazine and the national food policy blog Civil Eats. Originally from Chicago, Melissa has a B.A. from Indiana University and holds an M.A. from University of Memphis, Tennessee.
